Each year the Foundation and PTSA team up to pay for critical needs at SBHS. Please join parents, alumni and community members in fostering excellence for the next generation of Dons.
Thank you for donating $202,098 in 2023-24. Let's raise even more this year!
One Additional Academic Counselor
Our Academic Counselors are super heroes!!! We are pleased to announce that in the coming school year, the Foundation will fund one additional full-time counselor. During the spring budget negotiations, the District informed all three secondary high schools that they would return to a staffing level of 6 academic counselors per school. With this additional counselor, SBHS will have the lowest student-to-counselor ratio of any of the three schools, and counselors will be able to offer more personal service to all our students.
Replacing Vans for Athletics and Extracurriculars
Help us replace our old vans! We replaced two new vans in 2023-24 (Yaay!), but we still need to replace 6 more so we can safely transport students. Our buses are needed every day to transport SPED kids for activities, help with field trips for classrooms, and to get our athletes to off campus games and events year round. Your donations ensure that we can transport our kids safely.
Refurbishing our Library
Today’s high school library is the central intellectual hub of the school, advancing learning, research and exploration and fostering community as a welcoming place for all. Libraries have progressed beyond quiet, dusty rooms with card catalogs and newspaper archives into vibrant, active learning commons that integrate technology, teach research skills, invite collaboration, inspire exploration and innovation, and instill a passion for reading and learning.
The Foundation has committed to refurbishing our library with a wide range of improvements from new desks and moveable stacks to a makerspace and mobile check-out desk. Come see all the great improvements underway!
Safe, secure and comfortable!
The Foundation purchases many things that help keep our students safe, secure, and comfortable. We have purchased many picnic tables around campus and continue to do so to give our students a place to eat and hang out. We have also purchased bike racks for e-bikes and regular bicycles. Finally, over the next 5 years, the Foundation will purchase 20 new cameras to improve campus safety for all who visit campus.
Your donations go to the PTSA also!
Beginning in 2020-21, the Foundation and the PTSA have been operating one joint fundraising campaign. For each of the past three years, the PTSA has received a portion of our raised funds to support their volunteer efforts and good work, including the Learning Enrichment Grants (LEG). The LEG program encourages our innovative teachers to offer impactful learning experiences for our students, from field trips and speakers, to enriching activities and out-of-the-box classroom thinking.
The Foundation has a long history of helping make sure our most vulnerable students stay in school and on track by helping families with food, rent, health care expenses, or whatever they might need. Following the Thomas Fire and debris floods and the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation engaged in specific campaigns to augment these funds. Our #SBHSStrong continues to make a difference in the lives of individual students and their families.
If you are a family in need, please speak with your student’s academic counselor or email Marcy Porter at mporter@sbunified.edu.
Supporting Our DONS Culture
The Foundation spends between $5,000 and $10,000 every year to support our unique Dons culture. We do this by paying for breakfast and coffee at all our staff meetings, buying lunch for teachers and administrators who attend extra meetings and willingly participate in extra meetings, rewarding students who improve their GPAs, and hosting special events for families, including our Sunrise and Sunset Chats with Principal Simmons.
The Foundation for Santa Barbara High School is a 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Nonprofit, Tax ID#: 26-0312564 making your generous contributions tax deductible. For more information about any of these projects please call us at 805-966-9101 X5225 or email katie@foundationforsbhs.org.
